OK, my Heritage Park blog was just too long to put into one chapter, so this blog will finish up the events of yesterday, Sunday at that beautiful historical park. The steam locomotive made rounds about every half hour, and a lot of our folks rode it. We did not. We just did a lot of strolling and picture taking.
Today's continuation will include a lot photos and less words, as I spent a lot of time in Gasoline Alley, both floors.
Above, on the front porch of the ranch house...below, main street of the restored late 1800's era...
A few of our caravan-ers...
This was the last spot where the docent explained more of the history, and of course where all the shops & eateries were located.
Some folks rode the rails, and others made it over to the bakery, including us for some cookies & day-old sourdough wheat bread...Ben & Nancy bought some bread too I think, but I'm sure they didn't get any of the cookies or sticky-buns...:-)
Nancy & I made it over to the older Heritage Park area and took in some of the sights there. Here are a few pics from the area...
Above Drew's Saloon...
Above is the RCMP Constible in the older restored area...below are some old logs ready for the mill, which is directly behind the wagon...
Above, inside the saloon, and below, the mercantile...
Above, a working relic, and below, a non-working relic...
Above, a non-working relic, and below, a working relic...by the way, above, the shorter tower to the left is the water supplky for the steam engines. Any clue what the tower to the right is? It's the sand tower! In the winter the tracks get iced, and sometimes a little sand was required to get the loco moving again from a stop. (PS: None of us knew either.)
Above, Nancy & me...below, the front of the Gasoline Alley building...
And because I took a million phots of the contents within the building, I'm afraid I will need to include them in the next chapter on the Heritage Park blog. But if you want to see the pics before then, just click on this link, and you'll sent to the album. Plus, you'll see many more phots not included on the blog. All our albums are at this site as well. Here's the link: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos
So, here we are getting ready to leave Calgary for Lake Loiuse, via Banff on the ALCAN Highway 1. It is a gloomy overcast and cool morning. So, hopefully we'll find us another WI-FI spot soon and continue our on-line journeys. Till then, RVing Beach Bums.
