US Open at the Olympic Club

This our is our sixth US Open in a row we have volunteered.  This year we both were placed in the evacuation committee.  The course had four sites in which 6 to 12 large vans were staged and in the event play was halted for any reason, players, caddies and immediate families of the golfers would walk to the vans and we would drive them to the club house.  I am happy to report that we had no thunderstorms, earthquakes, terrorist attacks or John Daly sightings during play.  There was however, a Tiger spotted.  :))  Here are a few pics from our days we were permitted to have cameras, Monday-Wednesday only.
The club house at Olympic Country Club, Daly City.
 Hole # 8 I think.
Two golfers, one pretty good, Ian Poulter, and me!
Fluff, Jim Furyk's caddy and Jim Furyk
Not sure who this fella is, but below is David Toms.  Both Furyk & Toms were in the running at the very end to win the tourney, but faltered on the last hole, and Weeb Simpson was the eventual winner.
Above, looking down #16 fairway from the green, where our tent was located.  It was chilly most of the time during the tourney, but we had a tent with a heater, so we were pretty comfortable.  We were so close to the green, that we just took our chairs and plopped them right beside the green and just watched everyone just pass through.  Below, Nancy discussing her strategy with one of her troops.  She was the shift supervisor each day she was there, and I had to obey her.  HA!
Above, Ricky Fowler and below, W.E Yank.
VJ Singh, watching his shot, and VJ entering & exiting the porta-potty...:))
YE Yang again,, and the army of mowers preparing to whack grass.
VJ again...
Nick Watney, hamming it a bit, not really, as he is truly a nice person from the Davis area of Northern Cal, and a Fresno Bulldog alumni where he learned his trade as a pro.
Me checking on some email...
Above, hole 16 looking towards the tee from midway down the fairway, 670 yards long par 5.  WOW!  Below, # 18 green, a short par 4.
 KJ Choi
Nick Watney again, and Miss Nancy posing along side some Monterey Cypress trees on the 16th fairway.
Below, hole # 17, a par 5, looking from the tee.
Not sure who this golfer is...sorry.
Below, Lee Westwood...he too was in the running very near the end.
Above, Ernie Els...and below, the youngest person to ever play in the US Open, Andy Zhang, 14.

Above, us in #16 fairway, the last day of the ourney, taken with my android razr. Volunteers were allowed to carry their phones each day of the tourney.  We had to be discreet however.  This was just after the tourney ended.
Well, this about wraps up another US Open and our time on another beautiful venue.  It is so peaceful and serene, in spite of the throngs of folks.  We just manage to stay out of their way and tune out to the distractions, and enjoy the moments with each other and the beautiful environs. So, till the next time, RVing Beach Bums moving on down the line...
